Ian Compton For President (posted 1/12/09)
 
Following his success in leading the Dean Wood team to top position in the South Lancs Golf League, Ian Compton has been nominated by the club to take over the position of President of the league for the 2010 season. Ian has accepted the nomination but is determined to lead his players again in defending their title. I am sure we all congratulate Ian and his team in bringing this trophy back to Dean Wood and wish them all good luck for the coming season.
Dean Wood will host the South Lancs League Finals day in September 2010.

Any player with a handicap of 15 or less is welcome to join this squad of happy golfers, look out for the entry sheet next year.
 

Ian Mason Triumphs in Captains Prize. (posted 10/8/09)
 
Congratulations to Ian Mason on winning the 36 hole Captain's Prize, Ian held off a strong challenge from Mark Frith a previous winner of the prize who returned a strong second day score, Andy Blackledge won the 36 hole gross prize. Visit the members results  page to see the full results.

Steve Sinclair equals course record  (posted 10/8/09)
 
Steve Sinclair playing off handicap 4 equaled the Dean Wood amateur course record of 65 gross whilst playing in the July Monthly medal..Congratulations to Steve on this fantastic achievement.

David Morris Elected Captain of the SLGC.  (posted 4/6/09)

At the spring meeting of The Society of Liverpool Golf Captains held at Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club on Wednesday 3/6/09, David Morris, one of the past captains of Dean Wood was elected to be Captain of the society for the 2009 / 2010 year. This is the second time during the the life of our club that a past captain of Dean Wood has been given the honour of this position, The previous member being Norman Whittaker in 1990. As part of his acceptance speech David said he considered this as an honour for Dean Wood Golf Club and thanked all of the club's membership for their support over the years in allowing him the opportunity to take up this position. I am sure we all wish David a successful year and will continue with our support for him.
In the golf competition played on a much shortened course our current Captain (G.Simpkin) gained 2nd place in the individual prize with a very creditable 43 points, The winner being a member of S & A. Our team came third in the overall team prize, being narrowly beaten by Haydock Park for 2nd place with the winners being the host club Southport and Ainsdale.

Dean Wood Triumph at Leasowe  (posted 1/6/09)


Dean Wood captured the Mockbegger Trophy held at Leasowe Golf Club on Sunday 31st May. This is the first time the club has won the trophy since its inauguration in 1982. The team led by The Captain included G.Scott (Junior Captain), Fred Stuart and John Delves. They returned a best 3 card score of 105 points in very hot and windy conditions. Greg Scott recording the best score of the day with 39 points.


Lady Past Captains Triumph at Woolton  (posted 20/5/09)


Congratulations to our past lady captains who recently competed in the 2009 spring meeting of the Liverpool Society of Past Lady Captains held at Woolton Golf Club. They came home with the Nicholson Trophy, awarded to the team with the best aggregate scores of three foursome pairs. The winning scores were recorded by Hilary Graham & Beryl Murray, Wendy Giblin & Shirley Rigby, and Audrey Edwards & Maurene Hogan. Hilary Graham & Beryl Murray also won the Silver Jubilee Trophy for the best individual  score. This win gives them a good start in the Golden Jubilee Trophy, this is a new trophy to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the society and will be awarded to the club with the best combined scores over the spring and summer meetings.


Victory Trophy at Dean Wood  (posted 1/5/09)


The 83rd Wigan & District Victory Trophy competition is to be staged at Dean Wood on Saturday 13th June. This competition is staged over 36 holes with clubs represented by their top 10 golfers. It is an opportunity to watch some of the best amateurs in the area representing their clubs and hoping to become the gross or nett champions for the year. We wish our team from Dean Wood the best of luck in the competition
